Technical Specifications of Semi-Industrial Berloni Water Filtration Systems
How the Semi-Industrial Water Filtration System Works
The Semi-Industrial Water Filtration System by Berloni operates based on the Reverse Osmosis (RO) method. This system effectively removes all microbial contaminants and microorganisms while reducing water hardness. The filtration process consists of six stages (six-stage filtration), where various filters eliminate salts and suspended particles such as silt, sand, and nitrates by up to 99%. Due to the high capacity of the membrane filter, these semi-industrial water purification systems can produce filtered water ranging from 1,100 liters to 8,800 liters, making them highly suitable for large and semi-industrial environments.

Semi-Industrial Water Filtration System Components
Semi-Industrial Water Filtration System Pump
In semi-industrial water filtration systems, a water pump is required to create pressure for the membrane filter. If the pump does not provide the necessary pressure for the membrane filter, the filter becomes saturated, reducing its lifespan. This is why using low-quality water pumps in semi-industrial filtration systems leads to damage to the membrane filter.
The volume of water transferred using pumps is typically four to six liters per minute, which can generate pressure of approximately 180 psi.

Pre-Filtration in Berloni Semi-Industrial Water Filtration Systems
In the structure of semi-industrial water filtration systems, pre-filtration filters are typically used.
In the Berloni semi-industrial water filtration system, municipal water first enters the pre-filtration unit, Aqua Point 3000. This unit is equipped with a half-horsepower pump to increase the municipal water pressure.
In this system, water is filtered in two stages using 20-inch jumbo pre-filters made of 5-micron fiber. These filters remove dirt, sediment, and all suspended particles present in the municipal water.
The lifespan of these filters is usually between three to four months. The pre-filtration unit is equipped with two pressure gauges that indicate when to replace the filters.
For the internal piping and connections of this unit, one-inch UPVC pipes are used. After pre-filtration, water enters FRP fiberglass tanks. These tanks can withstand water pressure of up to 11 bar and contain Jacobi active carbon and silica.
Here, chlorine, gases, chemicals, and pollutants, as well as unpleasant taste, odor, and color of the water, are removed.
The FRP tanks are equipped with a semi-automatic backwash valve. Backwashing is performed once a month, eliminating the need to replace the carbon filter due to the presence of the backwash valve. After this stage, water enters the water filtration device.
The filters in the semi-industrial water filtration system may vary depending on the device's capacity. Complete details regarding the filters are provided separately in the descriptions related to each product. Semi-Industrial Water Filtration System Membrane Filter
The membrane is the main filter of a water purification system that operates through the reverse osmosis method, abbreviated as RO.
The membrane filter has a semi-permeable membrane made of polyamide. Water passes through the semi-permeable membrane while contaminants remain on the back side, thus purifying the water from pollutants. It is important to note that during the pre-filtration stage, some impurities in the water have already been removed, which extends the lifespan of the membrane.
The membrane filter significantly reduces TDS or water hardness and purifies more than 98% of water from all its contaminants.
Membrane filters come in different capacities based on water consumption. Each membrane filter in a semi-industrial water purification system typically has a capacity of 400 gallons (capable of purifying 400 gallons of water per day). Depending on the device's capacity and usage, a greater number of membrane filters may be utilized. For example, in the 800-gallon semi-industrial water purification system, two 400-gallon membrane filters are used.
The Berloni industrial water purification systems are generally available in six models: 400 gallons, 800 gallons, 1200 gallons, 1600 gallons, 2000 gallons, and 2400 gallons. If you require a capacity outside of these mentioned, please contact our experts. The lifespan of the membrane filter is typically one year, but it may vary depending on conditions.
The following factors can lead to a reduction in the lifespan of the membrane filter:
- Water consumption exceeding the device's capacity
- Poor performance of pre-filters, allowing a larger volume of contaminants to enter the membrane filter
- Water hardness exceeding permissible and standard levels
- Inability to remove chlorine in the pre-filtration device (the membrane is made of polyamide, which is sensitive to chlorine)
- Poor quality and inadequate performance of the purification pump

Membrane Protector Filter
In some semi-industrial water purification devices, including the Berloni devices, a membrane protector filter is used. This filter prevents soot and carbon from the pre-treatment filters from reaching the membrane filter, thereby increasing the useful life of the membrane filter.
Typically, semi-industrial water purification systems use non-standard and small in-line membrane protector filters, whereas Berloni semi-industrial water purification devices use one-inch membrane protector filters.
Storage Tank of Semi-Industrial Water Purification System
In semi-industrial water purification systems using the RO method, water is purified slowly. Therefore, the produced water must be stored in a pressure tank or plastic tanks based on the customer's choice.
In Borloni semi-industrial systems, two types of tanks are used to store purified water. The details of these models are explained below.
1. Antibacterial Pressure Tanks with Tube
In these tanks, with the pressure of the incoming water into the tank, the tube at the bottom of the tank is pushed down, compressing the air beneath it. When the water withdrawal valve is opened, the compressed air in the tank directs water outside at a pressure of 100 psi.
The interior body of the tank is made of an antibacterial enamel layer, ensuring that the water inside these tanks does not acquire any unpleasant taste or odor. Berluni tube-type pressure tanks are available in three sizes: 35 liters, 65 liters, and 85 liters.
All these tanks are manufactured by Tank Pack, Taiwan, and have NSF certification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
2 - Polyethylene Water Storage Tanks
Another type of tank used in Berluni semi-industrial water purification systems is polyethylene tanks. These tanks are triple-layered. The use of single-layer polyethylene tanks for water storage is generally not recommended, as light passes through them, leading to algae growth in the water. However, in triple-layer tanks, a black layer is placed between two white layers to prevent light from penetrating the tank walls.
In these tanks, there is initially a white outer layer, followed by a black middle layer, and an internal food-grade antibacterial layer that is approved for storing water and food. Water in these tanks does not acquire any unpleasant taste or odor, even if it remains in the tank for a long time.
Please note that adding a fourth layer to the tank is not recommended, as it only increases the cost of the tank without significantly affecting its durability and strength.
Electric Valve
The electric valve is used to control the flow of incoming water to semi-industrial water purification systems. The type of electric valve varies depending on the power, inlet and outlet diameter of the pump, incoming water flow rate, and the dimensions of the water purification device. If the electric valve does not function properly, water may flow into the sewage system, leading to water leakage and wastage, as well as damage to the membrane filter.
The electric valves used in the semi-industrial Berluni water purification system are available in sizes of ¾ inch and 1 inch, made of brass or stainless steel, depending on the volume of water produced by the device. It is recommended to use stainless steel electric valves for water with very high hardness levels to prevent damage.

TDS Meter
In the Berlouni water purification system, a digital TDS meter (hardness meter) is used to display water hardness. The user can monitor the quality and hardness of the water at any moment using this meter.

Pressure Gauge
In the Berloni water purification system, two oil pressure gauges are used to display the municipal water pressure and the pressure of the output pump of the purification system.
Electrical Panel
An electrical panel is used to control and ensure the safety of various components of the water purification system. The electrical panel can be either automatic or semi-automatic. In the electrical panels installed in the Berlouni semi-industrial water purification systems, a miniature fuse and a first-grade contactor switch are used along with a plastic-covered electrical panel.
Pressure switch
The pressure switch is used to prevent pressure from decreasing or increasing beyond a specified amount. Types of pressure switches include high-pressure and low-pressure switches. In Berloni semi-industrial water purification systems, industrial pressure switches from Danfoss, Poland, are used.
Antiscalant Injection System
Antiscalant is a solution that prevents the formation of scale on the membrane filter, thereby increasing the useful life of the membrane filters. The antiscalant injection system includes a tank containing the antiscalant and a dosing pump for injecting it in a specified dose into the system. It is worth noting that the antiscalant injection system is added to the Berloni semi-industrial water treatment units at the request and choice of the customer.
Chassis of the device
The body is made of iron with a sheet thickness of one and a half millimeters, galvanized, moisture-resistant, and corrosion-resistant. All components are housed in a metal box, providing high safety against damage and external hazards, including electric shocks and water leaks. In terms of HSE, they offer satisfactory safety.
The difference between water purification systems and semi-industrial desalination units.
Sometimes the goal of using semi-industrial water purification systems is to desalinate water. In areas where fresh water is not available, semi-industrial water purification systems can be used to desalinate large volumes of water. In fact, a semi-industrial desalination unit is the same as a semi-industrial water purification system that sweetens water by removing all impurities and salts, including salt.
Diagram and Installation Method of the Device
The semi-industrial water purification device must be installed correctly and according to technical principles to ensure optimal performance. For safe and easy installation of the semi-industrial water purifier, first ensure that all components are in good condition. Then, gather the necessary auxiliary tools, such as a membrane housing wrench, pre-filter housing wrench, water inlet valve, and two hoses for water entry into the device, as well as one for discharging wastewater to the sewer. It is advisable to leave the installation of the semi-industrial water purifier to a qualified technician, as any mistakes during the installation process may prevent the device from functioning properly.
Most Important Tips for Maintaining a Semi-Industrial Water Purification Device
- Replace pre-filters on time, as timely replacement of these filters helps maintain the health and durability of the membrane filter.
- In case of any issues, seek help from specialists to ensure the device is properly repaired.
- Occasionally, the device should be disinfected to control the quality of the output water.
- To keep the semi-industrial water purifier healthy, it is better to turn off the device at certain times, as prolonged operation can damage the pump.
